Information about AHS JROTC:

JROTC is a program to build the future leaders of this school, community and nation. These students have taken on the hardest job in the world - that of being a leader.  They have chosen to embark on this task by accepting the challenges presented by this Program.  JROTC is a college prepatory course that uses the Marine Corps' proven teaching methods and curriculum to help high school students prepare for college or the work world after high school.

Students who join this program DO NOT incur any military obligation!  The instructors ARE NOT recruiters and ARE NOT obligated to the recruiting command in any fashion.  If your child wants to know about being in the military, we will tell them our experiences and what we think about it.  With this and other information, your child decides what he/she will do after high school.  Our goal is to prepare them for college and/or the work world.

Requirements for the programs:
1. The biggest requirement is for your child to WANT to be in the program. If you want them in it, but they do not want to be in it, they probably will not be successful.
2. They must be at least a freshmen in high school, be physically fit, be a citizen or a legal immigrant and not have significant disciplinary problems in school.
3. Students must maintain their grades so that they pass with their class.  If they fall behind, they must take summer school to stay on track or they cannot stay in JROTC.

Costs associated with the program:
The cost of JROTC is surprisingly small.  All cadets are asked to purchase a JROTC T-shirt which usually costs about $10-15. All cadets must have a physical within a month of starting the program.  The school arranges physicals at the high school in May at a much reduced cost.  Cadets are provided uniforms at no cost. However, if a cadet negligently damages or has uniform articles stolen, then they must pay to replace the lost or damaged/stolen uniform part.  There are 5 teams that complete in drill meets and most of the teams will order a polo style shirt to wear at school or to drill meets.  The cost of this shirt is usually $20 or less.
